Daily Dose Holiday Blog Giveaway: Joss Whedon, Spike and Candace Havens

In lieu of our traditional Sunday Snips and Clips feature, welcome to another holiday blog giveaway. Today, I am offering Joss Whedon, The Genius Behind Buffy by Candace Havens. You may have read Candace’s books featuring Bronwyn the witch or the Carruthers sister, but this is a totally different kind of book.

Candy takes you in depth with the genius mind that created Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse. His creativity is a modern day legend, creating rabid fan bases wherever he goes. The man’s comprehension of zeitgeist and pop culture is unmatched. It is a great way to dig deep and get to know him better.

Sample Passage

As any fan of Buffy knows, Joss loves anguish. Each season the characters suffer from traumas of every kind, from impossible love to hopeless addiction. The majority of Whedon’s characters come from unhappy or broken homes. Buffy’s father left, not even returning at her mother’s death. Angel’s father was demeaning and cruel. Xander’s household was a drunken brawl while Willow’s mother was cool and aloof.

So what was Joss’s childhood like? Was it terribly traumatic? Was he beaten and tortured? Did his parents lock him in his room where his lonely mind began to generate the fantasies that would some day make him famous?

Autographed Book and Photo

Just to add a little icing to this holiday giveaway, the book is autographed by the author and I am including an autographed photo of James Marsters! So our Sunday holiday giveaway includes this fantastic, fun and interesting look into Joss Whedon’s mind (autographed!) and a simply sexy picture of Spike. What more could you ask for?

Oh, the rules!

1. You comment on the blog in order to be entered into the drawing.
2. You must include whom you want to give the gift too. You do not have to name names or post their email information, just a short blurb about what they mean to you or why it’s important they receive it. You can be a real secret Santa as well.
3. Each drawing will last 24 hours unless otherwise noted. (7 a.m. to 7 a.m. CST)
4. Winners will be notified by email so make sure I have that or access to it via your profile. Upon notification, you let me know whom the gift is going to.
5. You may only win one giveaway, once you win one you cannot enter into anymore.
6. Spread the holiday cheer for everyone celebrating Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Yule, Christmas and more.

Let Candace Havens, Joss Whedon, James Marsters and the Daily Dose be a part of your holiday plans and enter to win this gift for someone you love. Entries close at 7 a.m. Central on Monday, November 30.

  2. Awesome! Did Candace get to interview the man himself?

I would give the gift to my dear Little Sis who gave me the Firefly DVDs one year for Christmas which I proceeded to chain watch. She also took me to see Serenity just because she had seen it first and couldn't chit-chat with me about it until I had watched it as well. The Spike pic I might have to smuggle for myself. I'd like for her to get this for the selfish reason that she reads fast and is willing to share. :)

  3. I passed on a love of reading to my daughter but she found Buffy and became an instant episode hound as well. She owns the complete set and Serenity has been put on a wish list, that we soon will be sharing with her daughter, my 1st grandaughter.

  5. awesome gift! I would give it to my friend Season who is obsessed with Joss (well who isn't). When I moved to Las Vegas I didn't know anyone and I was rather homesick. The culture shock of the area and having to find a job out of my field was disconcerting. Season and her husband Daniel became fast friends and included me in their family. We bonded over our shared obsession with Joss Whedon. Season and I would sing the Buffy musical at work and leave eachother quotes on notes, texts and emails. Season made me feel at home. She opened her family, house and heart to me. I would give this present to her as a thank you for being there when I needed someone.

  6. I would give this gift to my friend Kathryn, who has Cystic Fibrosis. When she was recovering from a hip replacement after bone death due to anti-rejection meds, we watched season after season of Buffy. She has a kidney transplant coming up, and we'll either be watching Angel or Firefly during her recovery. She's the strongest woman I know.

  7. This is such a great giveaway. I want to nominate my sister for this because she loves Angel and Buffy and would absolutely die to have this in her personal collection. She's had a lot of surgeries this year and another one coming up over her winter break and it would be great to have this as a gift for her.

    thanks,
    Lauren

  8. Would love to give the book to one of my best friends, who is a fellow Joss fan. We both love all things Joss, be they Buffy, Angel, or Firefly. But the Spike picture would be mine, all mine! *L*

  9. I would love to give this to my sixteen year old who considers her generation invented them since the dawning of "Twilight" came along. What she doesn't remember is that when her older brother I gave a lifesize cutout of Buffy one Christmas!

  10. I would give this prize to my son, who is a die-hard Angel, Buffy, etc. fan. He's in his 4th year in college right now and has been struggling with being sick and taking mid-terms and this would sure brighten his day/week/month/year. LOL

  11. What a fantastic book. It really sounds interesting. I would give the gift to my daughter. She has been ill and it would be great to give her reading material while she is in bed. I hope it would help her feel a little better.
