Daily Dose Holiday Giveaway: Quoth Michele Bardsley and Nevermore

Never Again: Wizards of Nevermore

First let me welcome Michele Bardsley to our Daily Dose Holiday Giveaway. She is offering a spectacular gift for you to give this year in the form of a $100 Visa Gift Card. In addition to her Broken Heart series, she is launching a new series in 2011 that looks to be wildly interesting. Michele stopped by to share that series and her gift card this holiday season. Be sure to check it out. As always, the rules are at the bottom.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing…

This line from Edgar Allen Poe’s poem, The Raven, could very well describe my venture into the dark side of paranormal romance, and certainly the creation of Nevermore, Texas. In this world, there are those who can wield magic (magicals) and those who can’t (mundanes). It’s also a world where shadows edge into the places, into the souls of those who live there.

But it all really started with a witch.

Before Nevermore existed, before I thought about plots and motives and characters and settings, I wrote a scene about a witch showing up at a wizard’s door and saying, “Marry me.” I only knew that she needed protection, and she was so desperate, she had ventured onto the doorstep of a man who’d been betrayed by her family. I was able to explore her story in the debut novel of my new series, the Wizards of Nevermore. And wow, does she go through the wringer. I've never written a character so at the end of her rope, and yet still putting one foot in front of the other. She's exhausted, starved, chilled, and shattered--but she won't give up. She fights on.

When NEVER AGAIN opens, Lucinda Rackmore seems to be at her breaking point. She has nothing and no one. She’s alone, pursed by an abusive ex-lover, and her continued survival is iffy. Not only does she have the Rackmore curse—which is that no one bearing the name can have money ever—but her powers have been warped by the man she escaped.

Her last hope is Gray Calhoun, a powerful wizard with the House of Dragons, the Guardian of the town of Nevermore. But he’s not interested in helping the younger sister of his ex-wife—the woman who sold his soul to a demon lord so she could keep her wealth and her youth. He barely escaped with his life, and for the last ten years, he’s been a recluse.

And Lucy showing up is only the beginning of Nevermore’s troubles. There are murders, dark magic, and secrets to contend with.

For those who love the Broken Heart novels, you won’t find the same kind of tone—or laughs—that are part of that series. What you will find is human connection, triumph over the darkness, and, above all, two people learning that love can tear down walls, and heal even the most wounded hearts. To quoth The Raven, "Only this, and nothing more."

Readers be sure to check out the trailer and first three chapters for Nevermore here.

  2. I would love to nominate my friend Patti. First because she is an awesome woman and friend. Secondly because she is an avid reader of all things paranormal. And finally because times have not been easy for her and her hubby money wise lately and I can't think of anyone else that I know who is more deserving of a boon such as this at Christmas.

  3. I'd like to nominate my friend, Steve Stone. I got him hooked on books again and unfortunately (or fortunately), a lot of his money goes to the upkeep of the raptors that he rescues, & rehabilitates when possible.

  4. I would like to nominate my oldest daughter. She is a single mom with three adorable kids. She doesn't have much and never complains. My husband and I do what we can to help out but this gift card would be a blessing to her. She would be able to give her children gifts from Santa that she bought herself. Thank you.

  6. I would like to nominate my mom. She is always doing for other people, whether helping out at my business or shopping for a gentleman that doesn't drive, she does it all without expecting anything in return. Unfortunately I don't make enough to be able to give her any special gifts of thanks, she even bought her own birthday gift from me. It would be great to be able to give this to her to help her pay for the things she is buying for christmas and as a thank you for all she does for everyone else and never for herself.

  7. I would like to nominate my son Erik. He and his fiance moved back to Orlando about 8 months ago, intending to stay with me a short time. Due to the job market, they have not been able to get on their feet, and their dream of having their own place has been put on hold, so he could really use the gift certificate.

  8. I would love to nominate my parents. They are both so genorous, caring and giving. My Dad is a truck driver and they are having a hard time econoically right now. Also, my grandfather (Dad's dad) is in the hospital and they don't expect him to make it much longer. They are very close and it would be great to brighten their holidays with this!
    Thanks a ton!

  11. I want to nominate my daughter, Samantha. She's a full time student with great grades, works full time AND is seven months pregnant! She never does anything for herself, and I know a spa day would be what she would use this for!

  15. I would like to nominate my sister-in-law and my brother. My sister-in-law lost her father last year, and this year her mother has had several health problems that necessitated my sister-in-law to move in and help take care of her. My brother graduated from college in May, but has had terrible luck in finding a good job in the small town where he and my sister-in-law live. He is working odd jobs trying to pay the bills, but he is only earning enough to scrape by right now. I know that they would be very grateful for a gift card.

  16. I want to nominate my friend Barbara. She is my soul twin who I discovered after I moved to Topeka. This move was for a man who I thought was "the one" and he basically dumped me like so much trash. She has been there for me through my months of grieving, being supportive and threatening his life when necessary *grin*. I love her and she has been there for me through these hard time despite her own. She totally deserves this card!

  17. I would like to nominate my mum. She has done so much for me and I can't even explain how much I would love for her to have this. It would definitely make her Christmas.

  19. I'd like to nominate my new husband. We got married in October which was a huge expense but he also lost his job in June so we're stretched to the limit right now. I asked if he wanted to cancel the wedding or postpone it at least but he said no and he did it for me. He wanted me to have just that one day for me. He's my rock, he's my soulmate and probably my better half.

  20. I'd like to nominate my best friend and critique partner, Cassandra. She is the type of person who goes above and beyond to help others, and lately life has given her a thorough beating. Cassandra is a recent thyroid cancer survivor, and until a few weeks ago she was taking care of her elderly mother. Her mother passed away on November 8th, 2010 after an extended hospital stay. As you can imagine, this has been a devastating loss for Cassandra and her family - both emotionally and financially. After four years of working along side her, I can honestly say I don't know what I'd do without her. I feel like $100 dollars would make a difference in her household for the holidays. After so many terrible things that she's been through over the past two years, I think winning a gift card would be a wonderful reminder that good things do sometimes happen to good people.

  21. I would like to nominate my mommy. She has been battling different types of cancer since I was 15 years old. So that's 17years of her being bullet proof to any force trying to take her away from her family. She is a fighter, and if anything takes her away from me, well, I don't know who will love me like a mom. She nurtured my reading habit and encourages me to keep going in my own battles every day. It's easy, when I look at her and see how strong she is...
I will retweet this giveway announcement at YasVanderMer... Thank you...

  22. I would like to nominate my best friend Ckat. She has been having a really tough time for the past few years. She is a single mother of 2 girls. Ckat has been working close to 12 hour days Monday through Friday. She even works most Saturdays too for the overtime. Most of the pay goes to bills. She hasn't been able to get her daughters Christmas presents for the past couple of years because they have not had the extra money to spend. I know she would most likely use the gift card to get Christmas goodies for her daughters rather than get herself anything.
    Thank you,

  26. I would like to nomminate my very close friend Naomy. She has had a rough few months after leaving her husband. She has no t.v. (working on that one lol). She has spent all her time reading the same books she owns over and over again. I try from time to time to loan some of mine to her when I can but with her stuck on 3rds now its kind of hard to get her awake long enough to drop them by.

  28. I would like to nominate my daughter, Teela. She had a daughter herself in July, turned 20 in Sept. and just signed a lease on her very first apartment. She is on welfare for now while she tries to get into college and I'm on fixed income myself and can't help her very much. Any little help she can get in furnishing her new place would be great. $100 would go a long way at Salvation Army or WalMart.

  32. I'd like to nominate a new friend I met this year, Brandy. She's a terrific lady raising two kids on her own, dealing with a lot of crap from spiteful ex and her oldest son, and struggling to make ends meet like the rest of us. I know the holidays depress her because she feels like she's lost so much of the love in her life, and I'd be thrilled to give a little joy to her and her kids (who are terrific too!) and show them there are still plenty of people in the world who love and value them.

  33. I'd like to nominate my daughter, Kelsey, who is in college and can always use some extra money for books and living expenses. She deserves it as she is a very hard working young lady who in only a few years will be helping educate our youth.

  35. I would like to nominate my friend Georgia. The last couple of years have been, well, a pain in her ass. She came off a long bought of unemployment, and found a job with a big named insurance agency. Unfortunately her agency has been sold 3 separate times, which of course changed her job and its hours. She just found out that they will be closing her call center. Which means she AND her son-in-law will be out of jobs soon. On top of all that, she has to have surgery. This woman needs a break.

  37. Hello. I would like to nominate my supervisor, Tina Schumacher. Recently her family found out that their kitchen was rampant with mold and it had to be gutted and re-done. The work is done and Tina managed to get it done by Thanksgiving! (Truthfully, she said she was going to do it if she had to put down planks to do her meal!) Thing is, even though the work is done I'm sure she would appreciate this GC to help her either pay for the re-model/gutting or to buy Christmas presents for her family (a few). She's a strong lady who deserves a little perk. You can contact me via my email and I will tell her the great news if she/we are chosen! wererabbit67@yahoo.com
