After last week's snow and icepocalypse, reading is likely what got you through so don't miss Jaime and Ruthie's hot picks for this week's just released reading pleasure.
The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen
I discovered this book thanks to a small summer book club organized by the lovely ladies at www.Girlsinthestacks.com. I probably would of never picked up The Girl Who Chased the Moon but after eight hours of non-stop reading, I was very happy I did.
The story revolves around a teenager named Emily. Her life was uprooted by the death of her single parent mother. She doesn't know how she will handle living with a grandfather she has never met before. Her new hometown of Mullaby, North Carolina seems to have many secrets hidden within the stories of its many odd civilians.
I would call this book paranormal light mixed with refound love and a dash of teenage angst. Once you start reading about the strange happening of the sleepy little town, the book is a nonstop page turner. Now that it is being released in paperback, it would be an excellent addition to the pile of books you want to read next to the fire. To read a full review.
The Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney
The Iron Witch is the first book in a new YA series. The main character Donna has dealt has the reputation at school of being a freak. Little does your class mates know she is the daughter of Alchemists. She must decide if her magical heritage that she has always seen as a curse is worth investigating when her best friend is kidnapped by outcast Fae.
Discussions about this book have been promising all over the internet. Words I have read over and over again are gripping, a page turner, and characters you instantly connect with. Richelle Mead has even given this book 5 stars on Goodreads.com. When an author I admire likes a book as much as Ms. Mead seems too, I will instantly pick up a copy!
