Show & Tell Tuesday: Ursula Sinclair and Buy a Book, Win a Nook!

Hi, my name is LaVerne Thompson. I also write romantic suspense as Ursula Sinclair and I’m happy to be here today as part of Decadent Publishing’s A Buck A Book Win A Nook blog tour.

Nine months ago I dropped my oldest off to begin her first year of college, now nine months later I went to pick her up. I felt that nine was significant in so many ways. I survived my pregnancy and got a beautiful daughter as a result and we both survived her first time away from home and at last I bring her home. But I already know I bring home a different young person from the girl she was when she left home. Not just in maturity based on age and book knowledge but surer within herself. She’s had to take care of herself when she was sick, deal with social situations, teachers, studying, grades, finances and the problems of living with a non-family member in a small cramped space. And others that she probably hasn’t told me about. All without Mommy being there to take care of her or to run interference.

So for those of you still having to look forward to this time of life with your kids or those close to you, know that the secret to their success is your unwavering support and love that you have to let them know is there. They’ll carry it with them no matter where they are. It helps you both. But meanwhile a good book helps you through those long days. lol

White Wedding

White Wedding- Guardian Agency Series Book 1
By Ursula Sinclair

Shanna Stiles hasn't been a virgin for years, but it's still her dream to have a white wedding. Her dream becomes a nightmare when, just before she walks down the aisle, her fiancé is seen kissing his best man.

She runs away from her life, and a chance encounter with the gorgeous, successful Ross Marshall leads to a week of passion and a connection neither of them expected. Ross is determined to have a future with Shanna, but someone out there won't let it happen. Shanna returns home and soon discovers disturbing secrets about the people she trusts.

With so much stacked against her, she looks to Ross for protection and comfort, and it turns out he may be exactly what she needs--except the man she left at the altar isn't giving her up without a fight.

LaVerne Thompson is the author of several works in the contemporary, fantasy and sci/fi genres. She also writes romantic suspense with an edge under her alter ego Ursula Sinclair. She loves to hear from readers.

Guest Show & Tell: Sharon Hamilton

One of my fellow Military Romance authors is offering two new box sets that I thought I would introduce you to.

The first box set features:
Prequel: SEAL Encounter
Novel: Accidental SEAL

This boxed set contains the prequel to and the full length novel Accidental SEAL. In the prequel, the reader is introduced to the characters, Kyle and Christy. It is a small investment of time and money on your part, like the first course to a much larger meal.

This is a private glimpse into the hearts and minds of these fictional SEALs, their community, and the women who are lucky enough to be loved by them. Their brotherhood, loyalty and mission to protect and defend, sometimes at great personal cost, is what makes them heroes. They do so quietly, not seeking public recognition.

If you enjoy this piece, I hope that you will continue along the journey in my full length novel, Accidental SEAL, and read how these two get together, and fight dangers that threaten to keep them apart.

Christy and Kyle meet quite by accident in the very first chapter, and not in any way you could predict. But rest assured, they will find themselves together at the end in an intense and passionate relationship on purpose.

In the full length novel, Accidental SEAL, Christy Nelson embarks on her new career in Real Estate by holding her first open house. Entering the wrong house, by accident, she finds the nude sleeping body of a young man.

Navy SEAL Kyle Lansdowne, on a mission to find his AWOL Team buddy, is staying at his buddy’s home while investigating the disappearance. When someone breaks in, he takes protective measures. He doesn’t expect to find that a beautiful young woman is responsible for his teammate’s abduction.

What starts out as a meeting by accident becomes a hot affair neither one is ready for. Kyle is conflicted about getting Christy involved in his mission, but his hand is forced when he learns the same San Diego gang responsible for his teammate’s abduction has kidnapped her.

Battling a cadre of dirty law enforcements hell-bent on getting military equipment, especially state-of-the-art firepower, Kyle is forced to admit that he would die to protect her.

Now Available on Amazon

The second box set features:
Prequel: SEAL Endeavor
Novel: Fallen SEAL Legacy

This boxed set contains the prequel to and the full length novel Fallen SEAL Legacy. In the prequel, the reader is introduced to the main characters, U.S. Navy SEAL Calvin Cooper and Libby Brownlee. They have a chance almost-encounter in Monterey. Cooper and his best SEAL Team 3 buddy, Fredo, are on a mission to buy a new drone prototype. Libby is taking a much-needed day off from her studies at the University of Santa Clara to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Find out about two main characters in the SEAL Brotherhood at SEAL Team 3, and why Cooper wants to see more of the lovely Libby Brownlee.

In the full length novel, Fallen SEAL Legacy, Nebraska born and bred Navy SEAL Calvin “Coop” Cooper, after his own family has perished in a tornado, is ordered to meet the family of a prominent San Diego psychiatrist. The doctor’s brother is a fallen SEAL medic who died in Grenada. There, Cooper meets Libby Brownlee, the beautiful niece of this fallen hero. Heavily influenced by her father, “We don’t speak military here,” is her comment about the military in general, and the SEAL community in particular.

What starts out as a frosty debate between two people privately dealing with their own personal grief, turns into a passionate affair neither expected. Just as Cooper realizes perhaps Libby is the woman he’s always been looking for, she is snatched out from under him by a psychopathic killer bent on revenge.

Dr. Brownlee is forced to rely on Cooper’s help, along with his buddies in SEAL Team 3. Will Cooper be able to survive the loss of the woman he loves, or will his self sacrifice be enough to keep her safe?

Coming Soon.

New Release! What Part of Marine Don't You Understand?

I cannot begin to describe to you how happy I am to finally share Matt McCall's story with you.

Matt first appeared in Tell It to the Marine, Always a Marine #3. He was the patient James had to see before he went on his date and later, issues with Matt brought James home early to try and help the young Marine.

In subsequent tales, we saw Matt appear briefly in Proud to Serve Her--he seemed to be doing okay and later, he was instrumental in helping Brody get to his date in Her Marine.

Yet, for Matt, the journey wasn't over. A number of my readers wrote me regularly, particularly after he was mentioned and asked me when Matt's book was coming and I always said I planned to write it, but I needed the right woman for him. You see Matt's got issues and he needed a woman strong enough to handle what those issues mean, but also willing to take the risk on someone like Matt At his core, Matt is a good guy--a great son, a good friend, a solid Marine, but he isn't whole right now and until he puts those pieces back together a relationship wouldn't have helped. Of course, we also have to deal with the fact that Matt is part of the same unit that signed up for the 1Night Stands!

So much went into this book, but I knew I had the right woman to handle it when we met Naomi Sparks. She just lit up the page for me and in many ways I think she lights up the dark corners in Matt.

PTSD is a very real problem for our returning vets and not every two cases are alike. It takes tremendous time, patience and effort on the part of everyone involved to commit to the healing process. PTSD dogs are also a fantastic addition to the treatment plan. As such, I will be donating a portion of my royalties from Matt's book to Patriot Paws here in Texas. It is a local organization that trains service dogs--including PTSD dogs--for veterans.

Thank you to all my readers who have been on this journey with me, I truly couldn't have done this without you.

“We have to talk about what happened. You have to remember and not relive it.”
“I’m not reliving it.” Am I? The bitter taste in his mouth burned his tongue. Shouts echoed in the hallway. Feet thundered past. He jerked to his feet and started forward three steps. Jethro butted against him and he stopped. Disoriented, he felt the leash rub against the cuts on his knuckles—and he looked at James.
No feet echoed in the hallway. He wasn’t in Iraq. He was in Allen, Texas.
“Holy hell on a biscuit.” He sat down before he fell down and Jethro shoved his head under Matt’s hand.  He couldn’t make it stop.  “How do I make it stop?”
“Breathe, Matt. Look at Jethro. He knows you’re upset. Breathe.” If only James’ calmness could flow from the psychologist to him. It was like Matt could hear the words, but he couldn’t quite process them. “You haven’t hurt anyone and you haven’t hurt yourself.”
“Why does my mouth taste like ass?” Sweat trickled down the back of his neck. Oxygen burned in his chest with every breath he took.
“That’s the adrenaline. You got upset. You remembered and you were there. The bitter taste is adrenaline.”
“I’m getting short-changed here.” Amusement and disbelief warred against the craziness swirling inside him.
“No, it’s normal. With a lot of veterans, you start cooking and after a while, you can’t stop it anymore—that’s when you snap. You keep bringing yourself up to the boil and then backing off in full retreat.”
“What gets me cooking?” And why hadn’t they talked like this before? The blood pounding in his skull eased and his heart stopped trying to pound its way out of his chest.
“With veterans it can be a car backfiring, a twig snapping, or a box dropping off a shelf. The sudden, explosive noise reminds them of…”
“Gunshots.” That made sense. He could actually wrap his mind around that.
“But that’s not what sets you off.”
“So what is it?”
“I know this will sound like I’m telling you that five plus five equals a pile of hay, but it’s people yelling or laughing or running. Large movements of people. It’s what set you off in the bar. It’s why you didn’t stick it out at Damon’s restaurant. It’s why going home…”

Sunday Sneak Peek: What Part of Marine Don't You Understand?

Releases May 24th!

Available for Pre-Order at All Romance eBooks

“We should probably let you compose—without distraction.” He didn’t sound like he wanted to go.
“No, you’re exactly the kind of distraction I need.” Did she dare tell him? Oh, what the hell. He deserved to know. “You inspire me.”
Surprise rippled across his face. “I do?”
“Oh yeah. I even wrote a song about you last night….”
Wariness creased his brow. “Oh?”
Grinning, she started playing. If only performing in front of the world was as easy as singing for Matt. By the second refrain, he relaxed and by the last he laughed. The song detailed their kiss and exposed her vulnerability, her growing affection for him laid bare in every note. When the song ended, she held her breath and waited.
Matt leaned forward, rested a hand atop hers and brushed her mouth with the lightest, sweetest, and most heart-wrenching kiss. “Thank you.”
Her pulse jackrabbited. “You’re welcome.”
The bubble of tension wrapped around them burst with his slow grin. “No, I mean it. Thank you.”
“I didn’t do anything—I completely blame you for the song. You knocked on the door.”
He chuckled. “You opened it.”
“But you kissed me….”
Slanting his mouth across hers, he silenced any further words. He brushed his thumb across her knuckles, sending tingles racing across her nerves until she hummed like a guitar strung too tight. Every time she thought the kiss would end, he tilted his head to the other side and darted his tongue in and out, teasing her.
Nose to nose, he finally let her come up for air. “You kissed me back.”
“Yeah.” She laughed. “You kissed me again.”
“I did.” He nodded, brushing their noses together, whispering another kiss on her cheek and again to the corner of her eye. “You don’t mind, do you?”
Her laughter rode on a shuddering breath. “No, not at all.”

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: Graduation

It’s been an interesting—and at times enormously frustrating season. I do not think season four of Vampire Diaries will go down as my favorite, from the uneven storytelling to the overabundance of some characters at the expense of others to the beating of some storylines like a dead horse, there were moments of great cheer and moments of throat clutching disappointment, and when I honestly felt some of my passion for this show wane, my bafflement at the choices seemingly being made often left me with a feeling of “really?” rather than “OMG” at the end of every episode.

Thankfully, with the airing of the backdoor pilot for The Originals (and that’s a story for another day) – the last three episodes felt like we actually got back on track with the series focus where we should have been all along and last night’s finale was the proverbial toss of the hat into the air.

Damon & Elena

Yes, I am absolutely starting with my favorite couple. I have been a fan of Damon since he swaggered into Mystic Falls at the end of the pilot, greeting his brother and giving him that wild, wicked grin. But more than that, from the first time Damon and Elena interacted the air between them was electric. At the end of season three, Elena told Damon she was choosing Stefan—but I never thought it was because she didn’t love Damon, I always believed it was because she was scared of what loving Damon meant.

He will never be easy and loving him won’t be easy. Elena’s journey as a vampire has been fraught with one cluster f*ck after another. She couldn’t drink animal blood, she couldn’t drink bagged blood, she could only take it from humans, oh and let’s not forget Connor’s joyful arrival and reign of terror that led Elena to snapping Connor’s neck. Let’s not forget Stefan making everything about Elena’s transition about him or that when she finally admitted that he looked at her like she was broken and needing to be fixed…but there was Damon, always Damon who loved Elena for who she was—human or vamp, perfect or flawed—he loved her.

Writers Gone Wild: Or What Do We Talk About on a Friday Night?

So it all started out as an innocent moment of nerdgasm:
AGENTS of SHIELD Baby! It got picked up! *WOOT WOOT* Feel the nerdgasm!

Along with a little happiness about the new Tomorrow People (yes my Brit roots are showing, I loved that program) and The 100 based on the Selection I believe. And well...I'll let you read the rest for yourself

  • 8:09pm
    Heather Long

    Hart of Dixie got renewed
Yes, I am VERY happy right now
  • Virginia Nelson

I heard VD got renewed...and Duck Dynasty.
  • 8:09pm
    Heather Long

Yeah, VD was picked up in February
    So was Arrow
  • Virginia Nelson

You deserve it after a crap week
  • Heather Long

OMG and seriously what a week
Also, the first commercial look at Agents of SHIELD will air during the OUAT finale
I am super excited for the finale now
  • Virginia Nelson

    OH COOL!!
    Me too.
I'm hoping they salvage it...like VD did. And if they don't, at least I get a good commercial.
  • Heather Long

Oh and I also rewatched the preview for TVD next week
  • Virginia Nelson

Figure out any spoilers based on it?
  • Heather Long

There's a line where they said Ketzia will send every hunter who has died in the last 1000 years through if you do not give us the cure
Yeah, that's not a party of fun
  • Virginia Nelson

    Wow...that's a lot of hunters.
  • Heather Long

Yeah and they all "hate" Vamps
    Not a happy place
Damon and Elena should vacation in Storybrooke
  • Virginia Nelson

Nope. Damon is going to have a panic attack trying to protect his doppleganger. LOL
Yeah, Storybrooke has been way safer than Mystic Falls lately.
    Nothing. Happens. There.
I mean, the occasional tortured witch...but otherwise, not action packed.
  • Heather Long

That and Damon would hae already ripped out Greg and Tamara's hearts
    He and Regina could flirt
  • Virginia Nelson

Oh, man, that's a mashup I'd tune in for.
In Emma Vs. Elena...I gotta say, my money would be on Emma. Unless Damon and Bae got in on it...
  • Heather Long

And then he'd look at her and go "Why the fuck are you so wound up about that uptight little priss Mary-Margaret?"
Emma and Elena would get along
  • Virginia Nelson

True. The wholesome would ooze around them in globs
  • Heather Long

They're both "orphans" - although I could see them doing shots over who's had it worse...
Bae and Damon would separate them ASAP
  • Virginia Nelson

They wouldn't trust each other--Bae and Damon.
    No bromance there.
  • Heather Long

No. But Damon would probably be drinking buddies with Hook
  • Virginia Nelson

Prince and Damon might bond...but Damon would call him a pussy.
    Oh yeah.
  • Heather Long

    OMG yeah
And Elena would take one look at Henry and tell Damon "I want one"
And Damon could ask Regina where she got hers
    *dies laughing*
  • Virginia Nelson

Damon could solve all of the problems in Storybrooke in ONE episode.
  • Heather Long

    No shit
Elena could make a deal with Rumple to deal with Klaus
And then invite Klaus to town
  • Virginia Nelson

I would love to see Gold's response to Damon.
  • Heather Long

The Dark One would LOVE Damon
And then Damon would go - daggers? Are kidding me?
  • Virginia Nelson

Damon, "Magic beans and a pretty little magic sword? Really? What are you guys on? Is it in the water?"
Elena, "I think they're serious. We should help them."
Damon, "Help them? I vote we eat them."
  • Heather Long

Elena: "But what could it hurt?"
Damon: "You. It could hurt you. And me. Definitely me."
Elena: *sighs* "It's the right thing to do, Damon."
Damon: "I like you so much better without your humanity."
    Elena: "Liar."
    Damon. "Yeah."
And finally, Damon will sigh. "Fine. But we do it my way."
  • Virginia Nelson

Prince, "I have a sword and I will protect Snow."
Snow, "Back down, Charming. I got this. So, you guys drink blood? My mom was the Queen of Hearts. Bring it."
  • Heather Long

Damon: "I don't drink anything with that much saccharine in it."
  • Virginia Nelson

Emma, "Mom, they're not attacking us. They want us to help them defeat a great evil...er, original vampire, you said?"
Elena, "Yes, Klaus is an original."
Emma, "Yeah, that. What's so hard to believe? You guys are from fairytales, they're vampires. All of this makes perfect sense." *brow arched*
Snow, "You're taking this better than I expected."
Emma, "Expect the unexpected...right? Can you guys help me find my boyfriend? He fell into another world, maybe yours."
Elena, "You said he was the father of your son?"
  • Virginia Nelson

    Henry, "Yes, me."
Emma, "He was hurt. We have to find him quickly."
Damon, "A little blood and we can fix baby daddy right up. So, can you kill a vampire?"
Emma, "I shot a dragon. How bad can a little bloodsucker be?"
    Elena, "You have noooo idea."
  • Heather Long

We are having WAY too much fun with this
  • Virginia Nelson

Dood, we could write some rockin fanfic.
  • Heather Long

    No shit
And after they get the hell out of Storybrooke, they can take a break in Haven
    Get a drink at Duke's
    Meet Audrey
  • Virginia Nelson

You take the TVD folks, I got Storybrooke...we'll be rich!! bwahahaha
Oh, man...that would be cool. And then run into Dr. Who trying to fix the Tardis in Warehouse 13...
  • Heather Long

The Doctor would offer Elena a chance to be a companion
I'm thinking he'd offer Damon a trip to Torchwood
Jack would definitely not mine picking up Damon
    And Elena
    At the same time
It could be Damon and Elena's really excellent road trip
  • Virginia Nelson

True. But they end up flying away with Captain Mal on the Firefly so it doesn't work out.
There's a story for ya...Roadtrip through the Universe. LOL
  • Heather Long

I totally want to cut and paste this whole conversation to my blog
  • Virginia Nelson

    I would be so honored.
