Show & Tell Tuesday: Star-Kissed Chocolate by Azura Ice

Lyran born, but raised on Earth, Nova Staraway’s highly exotic appearance intimidates men. That is, until Roman Carvanoff, the owner of Four Dimensions Financial Services, arrives to investigate a suspected embezzlement scheme at Nova’s firm. He finds her attractive, but his strange mood swings and unpredictability have her thinking he’s simply a rich playboy.

After Nova’s pet dragon ruins her first night with Roman, she’s certain she’ll never see him again. He further confuses her with his continued on-again, off-again interest. But soon Nova discovers he may have a secret, one that has her second-guessing his intentions and could keep them apart forever.

Excerpt:

No need to call the police,” Roman finally replied to the chauffeur. “No harm is done.”
He returned his attention to Nova, who still sat trying to get her bearings. She pushed her hair out of her face and watched as his gaze swept her body for injuries. The simple action almost forced a desirous gasp from her lips.
“An aircar in front of the limo stopped unexpectedly when a taxi darted straight up in front of it.” Slowly, he moved his right hand from her arm up to brush the rest of her hair out of her eyes. “Are you okay?” Concern resided in his voice. “I don’t see anything on you that’s bruised or scraped. Is anything sprained?”
Oh, she could think of a couple things she’d like to sprain. “I don’t think so.”
He gripped her chin lightly and turned her head to the left then the right. “Did you hit the seat with your face?”
She shook her head. “You caught me in time. I’m just a little rattled, that’s all.”
Something flickered in his eyes. They deepened from vibrant jade to deep, forest green. Before she could react, he bent his head toward hers, fingers still gently grasping her chin. Her breath hitched, and the startled rhythm of her heart leapt into a frantic one. Mesmerized, she watched as he closed the distance between them. His lips touched hers, tentatively at first. When she didn’t protest, his mouth slanted across hers, his breath sweet and warm.
Shocked, Nova uttered a tiny sound that he devoured. She could only sit still as he kissed her. Surprise transformed into delight, and she melted against him, reveling in the sensation of his lips upon hers, the way he tasted so overwhelmingly male. The inebriating aromas of his cologne and natural scent wreaked havoc with her rationale, and the hard planes of his chest beneath her palms hinted at the muscles beneath. With one hand, Roman cupped her cheek for a second before threading the fingers of his other one in her hair. He deepened the kiss, trailing his hand from her face to her shoulder. Slowly, he passed it down her arm, each hair stiffening against the caress.
Desire roared through Nova. She wanted him so much, needed to feel his naked body on top of hers. Heat settled in her core, the intensity of it forcing a whimper to her lips. At her soft noise, Roman kissed her harder and sighed as if he’d tasted the most delectable candy.
“You have reached your destination,” the limo’s computer announced.
“Sir?” the droid said.
Reluctantly, Roman drew back. Nova sucked in a shaky breath, her senses spinning as if she’d just stepped off an amusement ride. She blinked rapidly, trying to process everything, and looked up at Roman, who regarded her with desire smoldering in his gaze.
Reason returned to her. She scrambled up onto the seat and collected her handbag. “This is my stop. Th-thank you again for dropping m-me off.”
“Nova—”
“I, uh, better get inside. Kazzi is probably wondering what’s been keeping me.” At those words, heat rushed to her face. Nova fumbled with the sensors on the door, nearly falling out on the curb. She caught her balance and straightened. “Uhm, have a nice lunch. Goodbye.”

About The Author:

Azura Ice writes several subgenres of romance, which includes, but is not limited to het, ménage, m/m and can be set in contemporary times or even in a far away world or another dimension. Azura’s muse leads her by the hand, and her fingers do the light-speed typing.

Who is Azura Ice? She’s a full-time author represented by an awesome literary agent. She is also owned by two crazy felines of tabby descent (although they swear they’re of Egyptian lineage). Azura writes in an attic study that overlooks a beautiful valley, and enjoys her husband’s company when he’s permitted to enter her domain. However, if he brings offerings of coffee and an occasional chocolaty treat, she’s inclined to let him in her office more often.

Making Some Changes

When I kicked off this blog way back in 2008 or was it 2009? A while ago, I wasn't quite published and I focused a lot on what I loved to read and it was very much a reader blog. Over the years, it's grown and changed and it was time to let the blog change for good because I have changed and what I post has changed.

So it was time for the name to change. Welcome to my "official" blog. I'll do my best to keep it updated with the latest and sometimes the greatest. What won't change are the Thor countdowns, the Vampire Diaries post mortems, and my random fan girling about the things I love. Also, I'm going to try and increase the number of other authors I feature here from time to time so that you can meet some of these fabulous folks that I've gotten to know!

I'm just back from RWA and I need to dive back into writing Raising Kane, so keep an eye out for more updates!

Guest Cover Reveal: Virginia Nelson

Runaway Groom is the first book in my Watkin’s Pond series and I’m super happy to have the cover to share with everyone. So, for the cover reveal… *drumroll please*

About the Book
On Sale: January 2014

The groom is back in town.
Abigail lost her best friend years ago when he ditched her at the altar like a loaf of stale bread. Now he’s back and determined to do whatever he has to—even lie, apparently—to get under her skin. Although he makes her hormones rev to life in a way that no one has since he left, she is equally determined not to fall for his boy-next-door charm.
His bride-to-be is somewhat reluctant.
Braxton Dean was too young and stupid to know better when he walked away. Years of trying to fill the Abby-shaped hole in his heart have left him empty, and now he’s going to win back his girl—or get over her. But first he needs answers. Particularly why she never responded to any of his letters.
It might take a whole town to make this wedding happen.
With the help of their friends, the two battle it out. The army? An entire town of busybodies. The prize? Happily ever after.

Warning: Contains indignant old ladies, steamy sex (but not with indignant old ladies), seduction cake, and condom bouquets. Yes, we went there.

About the Author
Virginia Nelson spends her days chasing three very active kids around.  When she is not doing this, or plotting taking over the world, she likes to write, play in the mud, drive far too fast and scream at inanimate objects.  She can often be found listening to music that is far too loud and typing her next fantastic tale of blood, sex and random acts of ineptitude.  Romance, in Ms. Nelson’s opinion, is not about riding off into the sunset on the back of a horse with the knight in shining armor— it is about riding the dragon.  If the knight can keep up… well, that is love.

Wednesday Works in Progress: Raising Kane

Since I'm working on Kid Kane's book finally, I can't tell you how awesome it feels! Fevered Hearts is a series that I truly do adore playing in and I thought I'd share some fun bits from the cover to the great new video courtesy of Joanne Kenrick!
Meet Kid Kane.
The youngest brother, the passionate one,
the one who lives with his soul exposed.
He’s never met a woman he can’t seduce.

When the spirit fever struck a town, a village or an outpost, it left few if any survivors. The white man blamed the Indian saying they used their mojo on them. The Indians blamed the white man for angering the spirits. The survivors knew it didn’t matter. The Fevered were forever changed.

A gift he needs to tame…

Kid feels what the world around him feels, he is a raw, bleeding nerve, and he can’t control the pain anymore. After lashing out at everyone he loves, he agrees to an exile atop Quanto’s mountain to learn to control the power he wields. Desperate to end it, Kid battles with Wyatt the eldest Morning Star—hoping against hope that the man will kill him. He longs only for peace…

A gift she wants to harness…

Evelyn Baker Lang grew up with a territorial judge for a father, and a secret—her father’s Fevered ability passed to her. When he’s killed in broad daylight in a little town in Kansas after freeing a slave, Lang is no longer bound by her father’s oath to never use her ability—now she must train it. She travels across hostile territory in search of the man who trained her father. She longs only for vengeance…

Tempestuous passions, opposing needs, and impulsive decisions divide them…

Conflicting goals put Kid and Evelyn in direct opposition. Her hunger for justice cuts him, but Quanto refuses his requests to train alone. Evelyn thinks him too weak and his soul too wounded to ever be useful in her quest and sets her sights on Wyatt, but he rebuffs her attempts to draw him into the conflict. Forced to train together, they must confront their deepest fears if they are ever to achieve their greatest desire….

His pain. Her obsession. Their battle.

Guest Blog: Lessons Learned w/Sascha Illyvich

Guest Post from Livia, heroine of Surrender to Love: a 1NS

My name is Livia and I'm an artist.  And a Female Dominant.  Crazy, I know right?  The thing about this realization to me was that it took time for me to figure out a lot of things. For starters, do you know that being tied up naked in your hotel room, facing the street below is totally hot?  I mean it helps that a hot guy did it and all, but the idea scared me at first.

My therapist suggested I immerse myself in life experiences and while this blog post isn't about that, it IS about lessons I've learned about myself and human sexuality all in the name of art. You see, Bruce was the man sent to me through some decadent match making service and when he showed up, my mouth went dry and my nerves on high alert.  Not because he was bad, mind you.  But because he was extremely handsome.  Tall, piercing eyes, a knowing smile.  He had it all, and he wanted me.

*gasp*

And I hadn't even had my first cup of chai yet.  Oh, and let's not forget I was still dressed in this lovely nightie I'd bought right before I had that breakdown over the painting I had trouble with.  That was what sent me to the therapist in the first place.

Lessons…let's go with that.  Bruce taught me to trust myself.  Guys I used to date before him had a creepy feeling that I often ignored.  When it came time for…things to occur I ran out because those guys weren't…I don't know.  Not for me.  Bruce's touch and demeanor on the other hand, and not just because he is a submissive male *shakes my head* had a way of putting me at ease.

On that submissive bit…I've always secretly thought it was sexy to have some man submit, but on occasion I get to go down on all fours *smirk* and play the role of subservient, though Bruce assures me I'm still in control.  He's been really cool about letting me feel things out from both sides of the coin.  And I think with how our lifestyle works, that's a good thing.  He's got ten years over me and knows a lot, but sometimes he forgets I'm in my twenties and don't have all the life experience even though I have the pain.

The age difference isn't so bad for us either.  Granted it's a different generation and Bruce keeps making fun of me for using words from books.  I told him to get hip to the jive and he shook his head.  I told him once after (blushes harder) a really hot love scene that I found him phearsom.  He found out what that meant and told me I couldn't say that, as the author might send some rappers after me for ripping her off.  I stuck my tongue out at him.

Then we did it on the kitchen table.

Oh, last thing about lessons learned.  Experiment.  I never would have found strength in myself if Bruce hadn't presented me with the opportunity for growth and I'd have said no.  Take chances.  It's scary sometimes, but sometimes it's even scarier when you realize what you've lost.
~~Livia

Our favorite kinky Femdome comes from Surrender to Love

In order to cure the dreaded creative rut she’s in, Livia ends up in Las Vegas by suggestion from her therapist.  Oh and there’s a catch.  Livia ‘s been set up to have a one night stand with a very handsome man who promises her freedom through submission.  Can she surrender to more than just passion?

Excerpt:

Livia smirked, bumped into the desk, and leaned into it. Matchmaking was the same as an adult service. Right? She was supposed to get laid, right? Wasn’t this what Dr. Gena wanted for her? Setting her hands on her hips, she stared at Bruce. “Yes but….”

Author Life: The Good and the Bad

There's a line in Sister Act 2, where Whoopi Goldberg's character calls out one of the students on her desire to sing:

I know you want to sing. See. I love to sing. Nothing makes me happier.I either wanted to be a singer or the head of the Ice Capades. Hey. Do you know who the Ice Capades are? Don't roll your eyes. They were very cool. I went to my mother who gave me this book...called Letters To A Young Poet. Rainer Maria Rilke. He's a fabulous writer. A fellow used to write to him and say: "I want to be a writer. Please read my stuff." And Rilke says to this guy: "Don't ask me about being a writer. lf when you wake up in the morning you can think of nothing but writing...then you're a writer."
That has stuck with me forever--ever since the first time I heard it because it fits me. I am a writer because it's all I think about morning, noon and night. I go to sleep and I dream about my stories, I wake up wanting to write them and I go through the day discovering new tales whether it's in a snippet of dialogue, a person I see walking down the street, a tattoo--or a song lyric. They are every where all around me and sometimes I think I'll get whiplash because I'm straining my head around trying to catch all the tales before they get away.

I don't always remember the sheer joy I take from writing when I am on multiple deadlines, or juggling dozens of edits or trying to catch up with my crit partners (because dude, I can be a lousy one at times too busy to get to read their stuff). But this week, I took a few days off from writing. Told myself I needed it because my brain hurt..literally hurt and felt bruised.

I've been reading for my crit partners over the last few days, catching up on my to do list, reading books by other authors and remembering--rediscovering that sheer joy in the written word again. It's the good and the bad in the life of this author. And today, I was reminded of that magic moment--the real magic in why I write, when I had to tell someone shh, I'm reading--what tickled me, is that I was telling the person whose book I was reading to hush.

I wanted to read what they had WRITTEN.

Definitely of the good in the life of this author.

A Year in Review 2012-2013

So on July 9, 2012, I wrote my year in review for 2011-2012 citing the changes in my writing regimen and what I accomplished for that year. It's a few days early, but since I plan to take a few "writing" days off and finish catching up on edits (I've edited 7 books in the last two weeks), I thought we'd take a long look back at this last year.

The titles in blue have been contracted, in red self-published and in black, still working on getting a home. By the way, this list is only for books I completed. I have another ten sitting here in various stages either in synopsis, plotting or rough draft. Some months show more 'works' completed than others, but in several of those months I was working on multiple edits - the heavier the editing schedule, sometimes the slower the writing came. But it all evened out in the end.
